Hi, I have a customer who has the following problem when printing via a remoteapp using remote desktop services. They were receiving the error when printing 'Windows Presentation Foundation has encountered a problem.' With the error id 5000 in the local application log. I have encountered this before and so replaced the tswpfwrp.exe file with a windows 7 version which usually resolves this issue.

However, in this instance the error has gone but no print jobs are created. The redirected printers are all visible and the print process appears to work except that I never see a job in the queue. I do not understand why this is happening, has anyone seen and or resolved this?

The RD server is 2008 R2 The client is xp sp3 with.net framework 3.5 SP1 and using the remote desktop client that ships with XP SP3. On the same site on a different machine using RDC 7.0 instead of the default client the same error is produced. On both machines no errors are reported in the event logs and no errors are visible in the server event logs either. Based on this I am sure that the issue is envionment based but I do not know what is causing it. Thanks In Advance.

Thanks Holchem IT. Hi, In answer to this, 1. Yes using easy print drivers 2. Printing is fine when running locally 3.

This was the next item in the list but so far has not been looked at However, I found references online to the xps subsystem not installing working cleanly as part of the.net framework. On the machine in question I found that the xps viewer was not present and also that the xps document writer was missing. I installed the XML Paper Specification Essentials Pack on the test machine and have found that it is now working on redirected print jobs. I suspect that the links you provided point to the same issue and that installing the hotfix 954550 would also work. Update: I can confirm that this was the issue and that either the installing hotfix above or the XPS essentials pack will resolve the issue. Thanks for your help.

This solved my problem. I had a Windows 2008 R2 Terminal Server, Win XP SP3 client. Redirected printers showed up just fine and print jobs from the remote session appeared to be working, but nothing ever printed. The printing problem occurred on both printers set up on the XP box, so it didn't appear to be a driver issue. Other Windows 7 machines had no problem printing to their local printers in the same remote office. I had no event errors on either the client or the server.

I ran the hotfix from 954550 and the problem was fixed!
